WHERE IS PIJAC?

wildtropics Apr 09, 2006 10:38 PM

I wrote to PIJAC several times about Louisiana HB738 but didn't receive a response. Are they still viable? The Louisiana Gulf Coast Herpetological Society had considered joining.... but would rather use the money elsewhere if we have to fight legislation by ourselves because PIJAC is impotent.

has happened to PIJAC.

Hi Kevin..........

When we belonged to this organization. there wasn't the massive laws in place and proposals. I think it got to be overbearing for Pijac to handle. If I'm right, Pijac was ( or still if around ) was non-profit. At one time also ( if I'm right and remember ) Pijac was as dominate voiced for us as Peta was voiced not for us. It has definite changed. Also with the animal agencies like the American Humane Society and state societies and the CDC getting into us herpetoculturist and hobby , and a lot more of negative news on reptiles, I think Pijac came to having a lot less voice on exotics. This may be all speculative and assuming on my part though...........

I have been working very closely with PIJAC on the AB 2862 problem here in California. They have staff and representatives in nearly every state and are working feverishly at staving off attacks from the other side.

FWIW, if PIJAC is not active in your state then perhaps it is because your stateis not activley asking for their assistance.

PIJAC is active. I can vouch for this. I talk to Marshall Meyers weekly if not daily.
