It was removed and I am thankful as well. I emailed last night to ask that it be removed. It was origionally written at the heat of the moment and was uncalled for and abrassive. To any I may have offended I do aploligize.
It did although bring out some very interesting points from those in Georgia and around the Country.
I was a little more than upset. I had been saving for awhile to purchase some nice brooksi and took it a little too hard. I guess I will scratch those plans and stick with Thayeri and Hondurans. But, I also will take some of the advise that was given. Joining a local herp organization and I guess I will be one less donor to the Republican party.
Thanks to all for advise given,
William

"...I guess I will be one less donor to the Republican party."
Just curious - why blame the Republican party? Do they have an anti-captive-snake platform?

Just going to give my money and votes to the Libertarian Party. I have been voting Republican since Bush 1, but I guess if the Libertarian party fits my personnel needs and political views best that is where I need to be.
Thanks,
William

If TN goes the way of GA I might have to look into that...
Oh, wait! They already have!
Dang anti-reptile politicians!

I looked very seriously at the Libertarian Party in the mid to late 90's. Some non-libertarians accuse me of being a libertarian. I've been called "libertarian" by people who think that "libertarian" is a disparaging term. I agree with some of what the Libertarian Party believes, but I disagree with other parts of their ideology and interpretations of Constitutional principles. I'd recommend that you read their platform carefully and read their writings on a wide variety of topics before throwing yourself completely into their camp.
I won't tell you not to vote Libertarian Party or tell you that a vote for a Libertarian Party candidate is a wasted vote. You have to vote your conscience, and if you believe that the best candidate in a race is representing the LP, then you should vote for him. There have been races where I would have voted for an LP candidate had one been in the race.
I'm currently on the bad side of the local Republican Party over a number of issues. I certainly don't always agree with the party at either the local or the national level. I stay with the Republicans because their approach leaves open the possibility that they will change for the better on the issues where they are wrong. I don't see much chance for change in the LP, so a dividing issue must always remain a dividing issue. I also stay with the GOP because they are the more effective party. I won't get everything that I want with the candidates from any party. If all candidates are a problem on some issues, I'd like to at least have some wins because winning candidates can do at least a little bit to help me.
Again, vote as you see fit, but I'd recommend researching for a while before making a change out of frustration and the passion of the moment. I looked at what the party says about itself and what LP members say about different issues in a variety of venues. I came to realize that while I agree on many points, I'm not a libertarian.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

Well I am 100% libertarian. I don't see how their interpretation of anything can hurt us. I guess it depends on where your values lie and how you interepret the constitution.
For the people who I have turned onto the Liberarian party they seem to think it what we all dream this country could be. But the radicalness
makes them think it will never happen.
Americans need to become AMERICANS again and stand up and fight for what they beleive in and stop listening to the propaganda that the media wants you to beleive.
Gosh,,, can anyone imagine LESS governnment? Less laws governing and telling us how we should live? WOW! Sign me up!!!!!
I agree with libertarians on the need for less government. I disagree on how much less and where to cut. If I had my way, the government would be much smaller at all levels, but it wouldn't be exactly what LP members would want. As I said in my previous post, I think everyone needs to do the research for himself. I'm glad that I looked at the LP and its ideas. I simply realized that there were enough differences for me not to change party registration or stop volunteering for Republicans who come fairly close to representing my beliefs. I'd like to think that everyone would make those decisions carefully after serious consideration.

HEHE, can we all get back to talkin' kingsnakes? JK! I went out todayand found no kingsnakes but did see 2 atrox, 1 dor indigo in a wildlife preserve, 1 Texas horned lizard and 1 Texas spiny tree lizard. At the horny toad I thought this is the top of the day, then rollercoastered to the bottom with the indy. 5' adult run over in a wildlife preserve! Now that's where I want to see some gov't in action! What's the point? Some people are a$$ h0le$!

Well said and I couldn't agree more. As I see it, the greatest threats to wild snake populations are Habitat Destruction/Fragmentation and Road Mortalilty, with poaching a distant third. It is NOT hobbyists keeping CBs as pets!
But what is done about this by the states and feds? Game officers are underpaid and overworked. They put their lives at risk mostly to enforce hunting and fishing regulations aimed at protecting popular game species - "resources". They have enough to do chasing poachers and checking licenses, and have little time or opportunity to chase down malicious snake killers and inattentive drivers. And they have little authority over the developers and their bulldozers.
This is particularly true for larger species like kings, indigos, rats, whips, bulls, etc., which are both the most vulnerable in the wild and the most popular in captivity. Ironically, this is where a lot of desk-jocky bureaucrats and their resrtictive regulations are focussed - hobbyists who keep and breed native herps. Prohibiting me from possesing a floridanna in GA is simply NOT going to stop Joe Blow from using that same animal for target practise or buring rubber over it.
Respectfully,
John D

I'd love to go back to talking about kingsnakes. One of the benefits of getting snakes and coming to this forum was that I thought that I could escape political discussions. As it turns out, the state house just passed the bill banning "non-indigenous constrictors." If this bill passes the state senate and is signed by the governor, I'll have to get a permit to keep my California Kingsnake. If the bill is as restrictive as it sounds, I'll never be able to add to my collection. I guess I could keep any speckled kingsnakes that I found around here, but I couldn't breed and couldn't buy any thayeri or zonata as I had hoped to do someday.

I would vote for any party that would PRIVATIZE the United States Post office as I truly find them the most disorganized worthless organization , with incompetent managers in America lol just had to say that.
I stand by it .
William,
I understand how you feel.
I keep:
2.2 Honduran Milksnakes (hondurensis)
1.1 Prairie Kingsnakes (calligaster)
1.1 Desert Kingsnakes (splendida)
1.2 California Kingsnakes (californiae)
1.1 Grey Banded Kingsnakes (alterna)
2.2 Variable Kingsnakes (thayeri)
As opposed to my post above where I mention branching out to ratsnakes, it seems I have branched out to Pituophis.
We keep
1.1 Bullsnakes
0.0.1 Great Basin Gopher Snakes
1.0 San Diego Gopher Snakes
1.1 Sonoran Gopher Snakes
I am eagerly awaiting my retirement from my first career so that I will be able to be home every night to enjoy my reptiles. Until then, who could complain about having a wife who is willing to keep and care for such a wide variety of animals?
Good luck with your collection,
Karl H. Betz
