Non Feeding BOAS: Can you help me...?

Alan Jul 29, 2003 04:34 PM

Looking for some assistance with two boas which have yet to eat. One is a DUMERIL BOA, yearling, and the other is a CENTRAL AMERICAN BOA, 3 months old. Neither has eaten. I have had the dumeril boa since March and the central american boa for three weeks. Both were eating prior to shipment. My temps and enclosure for both are fine and I have offered both live and f/t prey. My question is, how long can they go without eating before they die?
I cant believe a snake would starve themselves to death, but I quess it is possible. They are housed in sterlite/rubbermaid containers, have aspen bedding and adequate hide spots, with UTH. so I am baffled and could use some help.
thank you all in advance.

My record non-feed[bleep] C.A. Boa was over 10 months. I started force feed[bleep] at 3 months, and bo[bleep]ht a pinkie pump at 6 months of a[bleep]e. A month a[bleep]o I started pump[bleep] it daily, with small doses of fla[bleep]yl. I did this for one week. Last weekend it ate a live small adult mouse for the first time on it's own. I think the fla[bleep]yl did it for me

My male Dumeril's did not eat a s[bleep]le meal on it's own for the first 6 months of its life. After be[bleep] pumped only eno[bleep]h to maintain it's birth we[bleep]ht, it finally started eat[bleep] live rat pinks. It still hasn't learned how to constrict prey. It eats rat pinks ALIVE to this date!
