Cage building quesiton. Important!!

Dmitri1979 Jul 29, 2003 04:43 PM

Can anyone with experience in cage building tell whether wood stain, polyurethane gloss, and water sealant can be toxic. I'm building a rather large cage for one of my snakes (an asian red-tailed green rat snake) and I'm wondering if it'll be safe. I'll have to mist the cage daily (which is why I posted here with you tree boa people). Even if the stain is toxic, which I think it may be, the gloss is water-based and I think it and the water sealant will provide a safe surface once it dries. Is my reasoning flawed?

Thanks for any input.
Dimitri

As long as you give the cage enough time for the fumes to go away you'll be fine. I used polyurthane to seel my water dragon cage, which gets really wet, and have no problems.

Hi,
The cages look great! Nice job. Where did you buy the glass slider's?

What method do you use for temperature control in your cages, if any?
thanks,
Blane
