Cage building question. Important!!

Dmitri1979 Jul 29, 2003 04:44 PM

Can anyone with experience in cage building tell whether wood stain, polyurethane gloss, and water sealant can be toxic. I'm building a rather large cage for one of my snakes (an asian red-tailed green rat snake) and I'm wondering if it'll be safe. I'll have to mist the cage daily (which is why I posted here with you tree boa people). Even if the stain is toxic, which I think it may be, the gloss is water-based and I think it and the water sealant will provide a safe surface once it dries. Is my reasoning flawed?

Thanks for any input.
Dimitri

If you are going to be misting a lot you might want to think about using a marine enamel. It is a two part "paint" that dries waterproof. Just a thought
