Baby not eating

Jarkko Apr 10, 2006 10:08 AM

I just purchased a very young baby GTP. May or may not have had first shed. Was told it has. The last two nights I attempted to feed w/ no results. I am using small thawed pinkies. The snake flickers the tounge for a few sec. then shows not interest. Last night I tried again and it did the same, only this time I also saw it wiggling it's tail (presumebly a feeding response). Yet again though it loses interest quickly. Is it good to keep trying or does this distrub the snake? It seems to get a little nervous when I do this. Also is it better to feed at night. Any tips to get my baby to feed would be greatly appreciated. Andrew

This link is to Greg Maxwells faq sheet on feeding neonates.

Too bad there are still people out there selling babies that are not established. This is a great way for a new gtp owner to get frustrated and walk away from the species thinking that they are nothing but "problem" snakes. This is far from the truth.

The babies sometimes need to be treated quite aggressively with their food items. Bumping on the head has not been effective, but bumping the tail or S curve behind the neck to be the most effective area for me.
