Poll: Off-feed

jmartin104 Apr 10, 2006 03:11 PM

How many of your collections are:

100% off-feed?

75% off-feed?

50% off-feed?

25% off-feed?

I'll start: My collection is still in various stages of breeding and ready to drop so 75% of my collection is off-feed.

I have three that are still off feed

I have three that took thier first meal (since going off) this past feeding

And I have two that have been sporatic since Mid March - one of them keeps taking the dam thing but not eating it.

The rest are feeding weekly!

Ironically 32 of my 40 snakes are currently in their shed cycle. The other 8 have recently shed (within the past couple of weeks).

Guess everyone is getting ready for spring!

This weekend, I made a comment about this to someone. I noticed that for the past few sheds, about 1/3 - 1/2 of my collection shed w/in a week of eacother. Interesting

Right now I only have a ball, and burm. The ball is 100% off-feed right now as he does every year this time. The burmese though.. of course he's ready to eat anything and everything, anytime. My ball usually doesn't start eating again til mid May sometimes June. ; )

John Q Apr 10, 2006 07:54 PM

About 75% of my collection is off feed. Of those that are feeding, it's mostly males and younger females. Only 3 of my breeder females are still taking food.

10% off feed. Mostly males or females that are at that "1000"g range that usually shut down around that time, as far as the timed shedding, it is because for the most part, they are all fed on the same schedule and they average the same weight gain at the same time as the others, smaller ones get smaller meals, larger ones get...well you get it, there are always some eating more or less, if they all ate the same way, and at the same time, every time, you would have all of them go into shed at the same time. As far as my low "off feed" percentage, I think it has to do with the normally high temps and humidity in S Florida, I know we do grow some big ball pythons down here, only problem with that is that our breeding season is much shorter.

50% of my breeders are off feed right now. Others (smaller females and males) are eating up a storm.

I have one snake off feed. She is a late '04 and growing rediculously slow. She isn't skinny for her length, a little less than two feet about 600g. I have an '05 that has out grown her by a couple inches and 100 grams. My girlfriend and I seriously think she is a dwarf bp. -j.
The normal is the late '04 (Nov. '04) and the gold is the '05 (CH April '05).

spyderman82 Apr 11, 2006 08:17 AM

Here is the gold less than a year ago. She is the one on the right.

gailt Apr 11, 2006 02:49 PM

I'd say 50%

All the breeders are off feed still. Only one breeder male has started eating again but then most only stopped eating in Jan or Feb. All my non breeders started eating again last month.
