How can you tell a Peruvian from another boa?

lovebox505 Jul 29, 2003 04:55 PM

I know that Peruvians get slightly larger than some boa constrictors, but is there a way to tell them apart when looking at a yearling?

I believe Peruvians generally have thinner saddles than most boas, but I know this is definetely not always the case.
They are usually born like a 'normal' colored boa, but as they mature they begin to develope distinctive yellow coloring. Mine started getting color at a little less than a year old.
I have noticed many Peruvians have a speckled appearance, but with smaller dots than say, a Colombian or something. I have also seen many Peruvians extremely clean, like Barry Miller stock. The ones that are speckled are kind of a different type of speckled than a common boa...
hope some of that made sense... I am not an expert-I'm just saying what I have noticed.
You could post a pic of the boa in question and I'm sure many on this forum would give you their best guess at the locality.
I've attached a link to the album with my peruvian in it if you'd like to check it out. They can differ in appearance quite a bit though. Mine is about 2 years old.
