Bogus Cypress Mulch

DaviDC. Apr 10, 2006 09:08 PM

I traveled up I-65 from Birmingham to Nashville this past weekend & every connivence store I stopped at had an abundance of cypress mulch for sale. One store had hundreds of bags stacked all all across the front, on sale 3 for $10. I noticed they all had the same poorly printed plastic bags, indicating they all came from the same place.

Today I heard from a man involved with post Katrina clean-up that we need to beware of cypress mulch offered for sale this season. Unscrupulous dealers are selling bagged, ground-up storm debris from Hurricane Katrina as cypress mulch.

I have no problem believing the stuff I saw was for sell as cypress mulch in Tennessee was storm debris.

I also recently bought a few bags of Cypress (just plain large red lettering on the bag) and found ground up pressure treated plywood in it. Well, needless to say that was not used for tort bedding!

I usually check my cypress before using it, but it really sucks that people would do that
Thanks again,
Max
