Iguana Aggression

LoveMyTarzan Apr 10, 2006 09:25 PM

Hi! I have a 4 1/2 yr. old male iguana who has become VERY aggressive. For the last few months it seems like he hates me and is out to get me. I've had him since he was a juvy and we always got along wonderfully. His cage is of appropriate size for him and nothing in his diet or enviroment has changed. I used to let him roam freely, but he spends most of his time in his cage now because of his aggression. He bites, lunges at me, tail whips, and shows every other sign of aggression an iguana can! It has become almost impossible for me to do anything with him (unless I cover his head with a towel). I really need some advice! Please help! Thanks!

It's spring.
It's mating season.
He's horny.
Buy him a plush iguana.
Be happy.

Unless there are factors (internal/external) that have triggered or can trigger stress, it's most likely the mating season blues.

Do females go through anything during the mating season?

Also...IJ.....My lizzie has had 5 shots now, and there are a couple spots showing on her tail too high to be amputated. I am very frustrated, and am just going to keep her in the sun, eating properly, and am going to bathe and topically medicate her. I am concerned that these injections are not going to work especially since they can not amputate high enough...what do you think? My dr. is researching exactly how high he can go up without hurting any anal organ areas. The "deadend" area on the end of her tail...should I have him remove that?

Frustrated that I can not do something that is for sure for Lizzie.

Some owners have reported that their females would get extra friendly and clingy while others said they got moody and aggressive. With homones out of balance any thing can happen. With females you have to deal with egg laying.

If I am not mistaken, I did mention the dead tissue should have been removed immediately. It will only harbor bacteria. Get rid of it.

I am no doctor, so let your vet contact some good herp veterinarians, and see what they say. Keep adding penicillin/neosporine, and all the rest.

Best of luck,
