hoodedserpant May 19, 2003 02:38 PM

I was switching bedding for all my baby burmese pythons. I was doing some research and read that if you mix 50/50 cypress mulch and aspen shavings works good...I was told it holds in humitidy good. Please just let me know if you have any experience using cypress or aspen adn let me know if anyone disagrees with using such substrate...Thanks

Eric

Hi Eric,

I have used this mixture preferred it for some species, especially those that only needed slight moisture and liked to burrow.

When I added the cypress I sorted through it and only use the more "fluffy" or "fibrous" parts and left out the bigger chunks.

I'm not sure that the advantages were that significant to straight cypress, but I did like the substrate.

I simply use just cypress mulch for my brazilian Rainbow boa and easily can keep the humidity above 60%. It works great. Plus at walmart you can buy it for under $3 (although you should clean it first).

Thanks,

Matt
