Maybe a smaller species? ????'s

jasonw Apr 11, 2006 01:59 AM

I really love my boas and it is unfortunate that I can not make ends meet with them. I was wandering if there is a smaller species of boa with similar looks and attitude to the Columbians? Also that being said I did not get an answer to my last post below and was hoping someone maybe could answer it for me. I was asking about building my enclosures in my garage and using heat pads for heat and was told in short that it wouldn’t work. What if I put a low wattage light like a 40-60W to hold the temps up in the winter time? I am not to worried about summer as it stays in the upper 70’s to low 80’s at night here that time of year. Thanks a million.

I would not be comfortable doing the garage thing at all. Besides the cooler temps and problems there, summer day temps would concern me too. Garages can get over heated as it is in the summer months.

As far as smaller species...how about the Taramahara? (hope I didn't spell it wrong, I've only had a couple of hours of sleep)They are about 3-4 feet or so, I believe. It is the smallest type normal looking boa that I know of.
The males of many island/darf BCI can be kept at around 5 feet, but I think the one above would probably suit best.

Gus, at Rio Bravo produces these. I'm sure some others probably do too.

Good luck

Well bummer I did a search both on the Rio Bravo site and on google for Taramahara and or Taramahara Boas with no luck. Looks like I am in the same boat. On the pluss side the pet store will give me supplys or money. This means I can get some nice new enclosures for some of my other reptiles.

It is Tarahumara, rather than the other.
