Looking to buy first Corn Snake... many questions

dlek00 Jul 29, 2003 05:31 PM

Hello everyone. I'm going to purchase a baby Albino Corn snake soon and had some questions. Here is my planned setup: A 20 Gallon Long tank, screen lid, undertank heater, 2 hides, and a water/soaking dish. My question comes on the lighting issue, what do I need for my snake? I read that they don't need much heat, something like 80 or 85 degrees. So should I use a clamp light with a small wattage bulb or somthing else? Also what should I should for UVB? I also was curious as to how their color changes as the mature. The one I want to get has a great pattern, deep red spots with white and pink around it. Will this color/pattern maintain or change as they age? I think that's all the questions I have for now, but I'm sure I'll be posting more. Thanks!

The lamp is optional, as long as your undertank heater can
provide the 80-85 on one side. Other side should be room temp.
The lamp will make viewing nicer, but don't let it heat up the
tank too much. UVB not necessary for snakes. I'll leave the
albino question to someone who knows more than I...
