How often do you feed your young milks??

mattcbiker Apr 11, 2006 02:12 PM

Just wanted to do a little survey to learn and compare off of each other.

My '05 Black Milks and Andean I am feeding twice a week rat pinkies. Sometimes one gets two at a time if another refuses, which is rare.

My '04 Black Milk I am feeding 3-4 weanling mice/week and he seems to be hungry for more, but I'll keep him at that.

Heat for all is supplied by under tank heaters.

This seems to be more than what I've seen others feed these higher altitude triangulum, but they seem to be quite happy with it. Digestion is a bit slower than kings I've noticed, but it is consistant. They're definently growing fast. There is a marked difference in growth between my 05 SA lineage black milks and a FL lineage female who is eating about once/week. She's doing well though too.

They definently thermoregulate between the cool and warm side depending on their digestion.

Take it easy... here's an Andean, an 05 gaigae, and 04 gaigae.

I think your feeding schedule/amounts are just fine and your snakes look to be in excellent condition. I follow pretty much the same schedule and feed volume.
You can slightly taper down the typical meal volume when they reach the 4-5 year stretch except to fatten the females prior to egg production and post egg lay.
No wonder you're a starving college student, the snakes are doing all the eating!

I feed my young Milks and Kings ALOT!! Most eat small meals 3 times a week, and I try to stay on the same schedule as they get older and just increase the size of the Pinky/Fuzzy/Mouse, etc.

I find that this helps growth, as well as avoiding non-eaters like when I fed some once a week...seems to keep their appetite up!
