Getting a gecko to switch off crickets

ropaint Apr 11, 2006 07:06 PM

I just was given a leopard gecko that has been fed only crickets for its first 2 yrs and it wont eat mego-worms. How long should I wait before I have to give in? Is there any ways to speed up the switch?
Thanks Rick

I have not had a gex eat zophobas. Personally I think they are too large for most gex. Some would take mealworms. Most ate crix and roaches.
Personally even my hedgehogs and sugar glider thing zophobas are GAK. I can see feeding a beardie some but I would prefer something with less chitin and more nutrition.

To answer your direct question. He may not switch.
If he is in good shape and has nice weight and is an adult then you can wait longer than if he is thin, out of condition or still growing. How often is he eating normally? Skip a couple meals then go with a zophobas.
