green frog info

thefroglady08 Apr 11, 2006 07:34 PM

about...a week and a half ago my friend caught a green frog and gave her to me. I've never had a green frog before, only an eastern spadefoot toad and an european green toad....no frogs. My question is... anything in particular I should know? Are they fairly hardy? She seems healthy enough...although I wonder if it's good that she hides under a log all the time..she never goes into the water or anything. Anyway, any help would be appreciated, I'm new at frogs.

green frogs are a very hearty species. they are very similar to american bullfrogs and require the same care. they will eat anything that moves that will fit in their mouth. they are an aquatic species and should generally spend most of their time in or very near water. their captive care should consists of a semi-aquatic terrarium, with plenty of hiding spots as they are a somewhat skiddish species. a large water area with at least 2" of water and a filter, though a filter is not necessary if you enjoy daily water changes. this species should be provided with more than just a water bowl. they feed well on crickets, grasshoppers, earthworms, mealworms, small mice (ie. pinkies, hoppers, fuzzies- depending on the size of the frog, but only feed occasionaly), feeder fish- small goldfish/rosie reds, redworms, wax worms, silk worms, and anything else that moves, including small tadpoles and smaller amphibians.
