imitator call

tpopovich Jul 29, 2003 05:48 PM

Does anyone have a wav file of an imitator call?. I'm hearing a strange call and I can't tell what tank it's coming from. I think it might be one of my imitators. It's sounds like a Leuc call but a much higher pitch and a shorter duration. The only thing is, my imitators are only 3 months old. Anyone know what age they start to call.

Thanks,
Tom

They will start call[bleep] at about 5 months if conditions are r[bleep]ht and they are be[bleep]innn[bleep] to mate. It's a low, short, twitter[bleep] buzz. I can't really hear it unless I'm r[bleep]ht next to the tank, but yo[bleep]er ears can pick it up from some feet away. It isn't at all shrill, and sounds noth[bleep] like a leuk. It seems to me they have a variation for call[bleep] the females to lay e[bleep][bleep]s for the tads that is just a bit different, and a more harsh cheerlead[bleep] type call when the ladies are [bleep]ht[bleep]. I tend to lurk a lot to watch them, so this may be a bit fanciful.

I hope you can read the above. The "bleeps" were not from some censor of dirty la[bleep]ua[bleep]e, but the computer apparently went off line while I was typ[bleep] and this weird messa[bleep]e appeared when I pressed the post button and it reconnected to send it.

Imitators be[bleep]in call[bleep] r[bleep]ht around 4 months. It is VERY similar to that of a cricket. Mine are about 4 months and he has been s[bleep][bleep] his little eart out for about a month now. It is a very clear call. I have a [bleep]ood friend who had some lay a clutch of e[bleep][bleep]s at about 5 months. These [bleep]uys (and [bleep]als) seem to mature at a very early a[bleep]e. It is very possible what you hear is your imitators.

Ha Ha! I wasn't the only one getting bleeped. Were you talking dirty too?

Yes, they can call younger than 5 months. They really get into it early.

Thanks for the info and the bleeps. Must be the imitators, I have galacs and azuerus in the same room but I'm guessing their call is more like auratus. The're still under a year so I wouldn't expect to hear them yet anyhow. Patty, are your blue auratus breeding ? I have a lone female and would love to get her a mate or possibly a trade.

Hi,
I recieved mine last october and they were 2 months old and within 3 weeks I heard one calling and in november about the 28th I had eggs so they can breed fairly early. When I first heard mine I thought it was a cricket but it was the male imitator calling it is short but a very nice call.

Well, it is definitley one of my imitators, saw him this morning. The other one is quiet so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have a pair.

Thanks,
Tom
