They will start call[bleep] at about 5 months if conditions are r[bleep]ht and they are be[bleep]innn[bleep] to mate. It's a low, short, twitter[bleep] buzz. I can't really hear it unless I'm r[bleep]ht next to the tank, but yo[bleep]er ears can pick it up from some feet away. It isn't at all shrill, and sounds noth[bleep] like a leuk. It seems to me they have a variation for call[bleep] the females to lay e[bleep][bleep]s for the tads that is just a bit different, and a more harsh cheerlead[bleep] type call when the ladies are [bleep]ht[bleep]. I tend to lurk a lot to watch them, so this may be a bit fanciful.
