Veiled female digging in the dark ?!

dcmander Apr 11, 2006 10:20 PM

Hey guys,

I think most of you will remember my post about how my girlfriend's veiled almost died...and I saved it =D

Well she is doing great now (I know lele had doubts =P because of her own experience with Luna) and she started digging a hole in the stand next to the edge of the trashcan. She was digging a pretty wide hole and only got an inch deep (she wasn't making great progress) and then my girlfriend was talking on her phone near the cage (accident) and I think it scared her.

Anyway she stopped digging and went to the top of the cage again...the next day she didn't dig...and now she is digging again! My girlfriend kept the lights on until 9pm instead of the usual 8pm....but Kamil is still digging! Even though the lights are off!

Is this normal? Should we keep the lights on the normal schedule ?

Thoughts ?? Experiences ??

Its normal for some of them to continue to dig into the night. I usually leave my lights on if they are still digging when its time for the lights to go off....but it doesn't really seem to matter if you turn the lights off/keep them on the normal schedule. (The sun also rises and sets!)

Hope to hear that she soon finishes!

Most of my girls finish laying in one day. The last one was still digging at lights out, and in th emorning, was finished. She finished digging, laid her eggs, and covered the hole in complete darkness.

the only compensation I made for her was a ceramic heater near the tub (not too close to melt or burn anything) to keep the ambient temp up a bit. But her lights remained on schedule. In fact, it was usally in the a.m. that I would find her back up in her branches which meant she did most of her activity in the dark.

Hope all continues to go well!

Sunshine dug in the dark this last time, I also suspect she fell asleep some hours, but she definitively dug at least half of her hole in the dark. I had heat mat beneath the sand box so to keep tha box and sand somewhat warmer. I kept her regular lighting hours, actually the light in the morning woke her up, so she finally laid eggs.
