Pantherophis guttata emoryi , subspecies of corn snake...for now.

Visual Morphs?....I love the normal looks. You can't improve on nature, you can only produce "interesting deviations".

Since when?

Last I saw (according to the CNAH) it was going to be changed to:

Pantherophis guttatus -- Cornsnake

Pantherophis emoryi -- Great Plains Ratsnake

and

Pantherophis slowinskii -- Slowinski's corn (Kisatchee)

But...even if you disagree with and do not yet use the "Pantherophis" genus name, "emoryi" has not been considered a subspecies of "guttata" for some 4-7 years (depending upon which source you cite).

If you see something different than that, I would really like to see it. Perrsonally, I think that they are all subspecies of the same species, but they didn't ask me...believe it or not!

If you use Pantherophis, it is now feminine, and the guttata should be changed to guttatus to reflect. Founding last names remain the same, and are not changed.
i.e. Pantherophis guttatus guttatus - corn
Pantherophis guttatus emoryi - GPR
Pantherophis guttatus slowinskii - Slowinski's corn

The obsoleta complex has the same rules applied.
Pantherophis obsoletus obsoletus - black rat
Pantherophis obsoletus quadrivittatus - yellow rat
Pantherophis obsoletus spiloides - gray rat
Pantherophis obsoletus rossalleni - everglades rat

Brian, I agree with the femminine

Pantherophis guttatus but I do not believe the emoryi is classified as guttatus any longer. like Darrin said I am pretty sure it is simply Pantherophis emoryi
or Pantherophis slowinski
without the guttatus
and corns are simply Pantherophis guttatus
I could easily be wrong but this is how I understood the changes.

I dont think the reclass has happened yet. I know that there is a big hoopla over it and alot of herpetologists/biologists dont agree with it. I dont know how much you have read about it, but the reclass not only concerns the guttatus, but the obsoletus complex as well. I dont agree with it at all. Especially when you are talking about lumping the yellow, the everglades, and the grey rat snakes all into one species. And the Texas rats getting lumped into the same boat as the black rats of MO, AR, KS, OK and the other midwestern states. Just doesnt sit well with me at all.

I don't like what they are doing either.
I didn't mind the separation from the European rats but classifications like the ones you mentioned are ridiculous.

Pantherophis emoryi, formerly Elaphe emoryi.
Either way, it's an emoryi ratsnake in common terms.
