Bull Snake?

jr_thor_311 Apr 12, 2006 03:10 PM

My dogs found this guy in our yard in NE Kansas. It looks like a bull snake to me but I can't find an exact match. Probably about 3 to 4 feet long?

Any ideas?

This snake is either a Prairie Kingsnake or a Great Plains Ratsnake. I would need to see a clear head shot to tell the difference as they are very similar looking snakes.

That said, the color pattern looks more typical for a Prairie King. If I was forced to make a guess I would say prairie king due to the color pattern and the roundness of the head.

Here are your pics -

Thanks for the help. Either choice works for me (as they are rodent killers), I just wanted to make sure it wasn't dangerous to my family or my pets.
