hogs in kansas? sorry a bit rambling....

polosue25 Apr 12, 2006 04:23 PM

I was at a pet store talking to the woman that ran it (sells snakes but no hogs), and she told me that hognose were native to kansas and they didn't sell any because they didn't have the permit needed to do so. she said to own one you need proof that it's not a native animal. Now, I used to have a receipt for my snake, who is CBB, but not sure where it went, and I'm going to be getting a male from a friend in NY, also CBB, but I'm sure he has no paperwork either. I was hoping to sell the babies if I were to get successful breeding, but I don't want to get in trouble. Anyone know anything about this? I thought I'd contact fish and game or something like that. And where might one find hognose in Kansas? I'd love to go hunting All we ever find here are watersnakes, garters, the occasional ringneck, and something yesterday that's either a kingsnake or a bullsnake, yet to be ID'd...

I responded to your breeding and selling question in your post in the "what kind" forum. Gave you a couple of links. Basically, if it is non native and you are selling reptiles that you have bred and raised youself, from you own home, then no permit is needed. If they are considered native, then permit is required. Double check on the status of westerns in your state. I believe the Dusty, Plains, and Mexican are considered subspecies of the Western, so I would be very careful and check up on that. Hope this helps.
