Since most flapnecks are wildcaught adults they are usually apprioaching the end. Even if they are sub adults they are filled to the brim with parasites.

If yours was a captive bred one, or you were one of the rare people able to properly acclimate them, then congrats! Im just guessin' here but id guess between 5-9? Maybe im over guessin. Just wait for Eric Adrigola to respond. He's a friggin genious!

Post some pics of karma!

Most WC flapnecks aren't approaching the end after importation due to old age, they're approaching the end due to the process of importation and inadequate care. What symptoms is your cham showing and what makes you think your flapneck is showing signs of old age? Is it CB or WC and how long have you had it? Very few captive chameleons (especially WC) die due to old age and to just assume it is neglects the obligation one has as a keeper to correctly assess the situation and learn from it.

karma is about 3 years old now. from what i'm guessing, he was about 4-6 months old when i bought him from a pet store. (i know better now!) he's had no problems until now. he stopped eating, drinking and basically moving. i work at a vet (unfortunatly we don't routinely see exotics) and figured i should really bring him in. when i was loading him, i noticed that he looked like he has mouth rot! i thought maybe he had a bad shed and some skin around the mouth didn't peel all the way. anyway, he has two areas that i'm concerned about. the one site was hard, but as i was working on him, that piece came off. i'm treating him with dilute betadine and gentamicin. i'm waiting for his culture, hopefully it won't be too late. i've also started him on ip fluids. any thoughts on force feeding? and should i start him on antibiotics now or wait for the culture?

sadly, karma passed away before i was able to bring him home.

It's sad I'm sorry to hear it. I know how it feels as do many here. Hope you feel better soon, and try again.

Take care,

So sorry The fact that you saw it coming said it was time - for whatever the reason. Karma had a good few years with you.

If it is something you can afford, and are inclined to do, a necropsy is a good thing for everyone in the herp community as well as yourself, but it's a personal decision.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Amazingly, eventhough we can't hold and cuddle these amazing animals, they still find a place in our hearts. As Eve said, alot of us have been through this.

I have learned so much from this forum regarding care of chams. It was because of these fine people that I decided to get another.

Good luck, and thanks for giving Karma a good life!

thank you all for the kind words. unfortunatly a necropsy can't be done. i have this weird collection of things in jars and he was added to it, so he'll always be with me in a morbid way. all the things were already deceased before they were added to jars.
