average time after shed to lay

xblackheart Apr 12, 2006 08:25 PM

Ok. I know this is kinda a dumb question. I know the average lay time is 10 to 15 days after the shed. I was kinda wanting everyone's responses. My female is on day 12. She is very active, going in and out of her box and is huge. I was also told to take her to the vet on day 16 if she has not layed. What do you all think?
I know some people say their snakes have layed even before the shed. I just want the norm.
thanks for any responses.

this being my first time, mine was going in and out of the box, this morning she was "digging" in it, today when i came in from work i had eggs...... that beat out the easter bunny....LOL

LOL. My first female shed the same day as yours. Maybe anytime now. She has been digging in her box ever since I put it in, though. I actually have two boxes. I don't know if this will confuse her, though. I could not decide whether to use vermiculite or moss. I first had vermiculite on the bottom and moss on top, nut my BF was thinking she did not like the moss.
Did you use perlite?

Does anyone think the two boxes is a bad thing?
Also,
Is having a box on a heat pad bad? I know I don't want the temps to get too high, or the eggs will die. Again, My BF was thinking the snake was too cold and thats why she has not layed. LOL. He is more impatient than I am.

yes i used perlite(i know i spelled that wrong)
the temps were normal temps in her enclosure, i for some reason thought they laid at night....

The norm is 7-12 days after the pre egg-laying shed. On occasion I have hade them go earlier, and later as well. But a good sign that they are ready lay is they will get really active a day or so before getting ready to lay (looking for a spot to lay).
I only use damp sphagnum moss in the nest box. And I wait until about 4-5 days after they shed before putting in the nest box.

For me it's an average of 10 days. I think a female will actively explore a nest box, whether she's gravid or not. They have a tendency to "bed down" in the box for a day prior to egglaying. Are you sure she's gravid? Most females won't eat after their pre-egglaying shed.

Spagnum moss is the standard used in egglaying boxes - not perlite or vermiculite - which are used for egg incubation.

I am totally sure that she is gravid. She has finally settled down in the box with the moss. I am hoping to find eggs when I get home today.
