Not to much eastern?

pfgreaper Apr 12, 2006 09:14 PM

Just wondering how come the western type is more sought after in the pet trade. Im more of a python person myself but happened to stumble upon a young hognose. After that it was kinda like wow this thing is pretty and doesnt bite. The bluff on this thing is wild though looks sorta like a tiny cobra wannabe lol. Anyways Would hope to find more people out there keeping easterns. Heres a pic of mine. I thought it must be a morph or something but after looking at pics I guess mine is just a juvie.

It is much easier to convert westerns over to mice. (or so they sy ) Easterns are also the largest of the North American species, some reaching almost 36 inches. Guess that is not to big to a python man! I honestly think it is really all about to feeding though. Of the 4 easterns I had, I was only able to convert one to f/t mice. All four were wild rescues (a virus took all four out, thus the problem with strict toad eaters), so it might be different if I had recieved them as neonates. Would love an opportunity to breed Easterns again, I really miss them. Now I am working with Tricolors. Lots of similariaties, but I think the differences out weigh them. Love them though, a hoggie is a hoggie, and I love them all.

I would think the reason easterns aren't as popular is the toad thing.I have 3,and 2 of them eat baby rats only.Got an adult female to take pink rats after only the third try.My male is another story though,I got him late in the fall '05,haven't really tried to switch him yet.BTW,nice looking hoggie. jeff
