Switching to rats.....

phiber_optikx Apr 13, 2006 04:23 AM

Anyone have their balls take an exceptionally long time on their first rat? He always eats right away practically out of my hand. But I gave him his first rat last week and it took him 30 minutes to take it. I gave him one today and he took it instantly. Normal? Just scared of prey 2x the size of normal?

they smell different. My 05 will jump on a large mouse but snub a rat crawler. The two are the same size but smell different. Now I know to feed young balls rat pinks as soon as possible.

Visual Morphs?....I love the normal looks. You can't improve on nature, you can only produce "interesting deviations".

You're good, I think.

You can also buy a rat at the pet store and ask them to throw some mouse bedding in with the rat to transition the new smell over.

I'll bring a cheap tupperware container and leave the rat in it for several hours to pick up some mouse scent.

I think youre all set in this case however.

No need to switch. Feed whatever they like to eat. I have mouse feeders that grow just as well as rat feeders. If you want to switch give it a shot. If they don't go along, than stick to what they like. Nothing beats a snake that likes to eat, so if they like mice than by all means give them mice,,,, no worries.

He will take either. Actually he will take anything you throw at him. I guess which he gets depends on how big my paycheck is every week Any advantages of mice over rats/vise versa?
