protozoan levels

jeune18 Apr 13, 2006 09:56 AM

i treated kaiser berg with panacur, along with several other lizards about a month-2 weeks ago. everyone else i treated is well on their way to chubby land, including the healing lucia.

kaiser is extremely skinny, although he eats and i am having visions of what killed walter the first so many years ago, a protozoan infestation.

someone told me once some protozoans need to be there but they can reach a point of not allowing the animal to absorb its food, so they starve to death while eating daily.

what i need to know is:
does anyone know what the healthy levels are or what the dangerous levels are?
and what medicine is used to treat protozoans.

i don't feel like driving to vienna or fairfax again and the friend of the family will need help with this!

And feed them 3 times a day (the ole open the mouth and put it in) deal.

I also give vitimin B complex once a week a drop.

Just put gentle presure on each side of his jaw (gentle) and they usually will open and out in a cricket or super worm. I have fed some wc's like that for 6 months straight. The ones who refuse to eat.

The failure to thrive guys! So ya help em along.

I never get into the protozoans, stuff Vonnie, LOL Maybe your trying to hard to DIAGNOSE your lizards, maybe he's just streesed, who does he live with?

he lives with one other lizard, ivan the girl. he eats every time i feed him, it's not that he is not eating. it's that he is eating and not gaining weight

just so you don't think i am completely overreacting
in this picture of his tail, the dark line in the middle of his tail but towards the end of his tail, isn't a black line but where his tail is sunken in and causes a shadow. i tried to get a picture of his hipbones but he wasn't being cooperative

I'd go ahead and dose everybody with Flagyl and then again with Panacur in two weeks. You're right, that's a thin lizzy! I've seen worse though, believe it or not, and mine pulled through just fine.

If you need dosing information, email me and I can provide you with my numbers.

I thought you said you did worm him? How many times? Sometimes 2 times is not enough and I do it 3 times.

i gave them panacur once and then two weeks later gave it to them again. both times that i gave it to them, i cleaned the cage completely. kaiser has always been thin, but never this thin. perhaps i should start over and treat him again. ivan isn't skinny, should i remove her and just treat him and let him live alone for a month?

I'm thinking Flagyl. I don't know what "levels" they're supposed to have, but in all the times I have given Flagyl to my lizards, I have never tipped the scales too far in the wrong direction. Dosing is very precise, however. You need to find out from your vet (over the phone should be fine) how much to give per gram of body weight.
