I do snake relocation here in California and got a call yesterday from someone saying he "thought these 2 snakes in this home were hots", I asked the usual questions and found out they are in captivity and the mom and dad are very scared. The kid (mid 20's) ordered them over the internet from Florida the mom thinks. I went in and it was indeed a white lip and an eyelash. Both healthy. I tubed and sexed them as females. And yes I have all the proper equipment and training. My problem is I dont want to kill two beautiful, viable animals both are young adults and in great shape. I know the laws here and thats not good either, and I cant ship them out of state because I have no proper shipping crates etc for hots and also because to mark the crates would be a red herring to DFG at the airport. Should I just keep quiet and let them live out their lives with me, I have all the proper housing and skills to keep them thriving, or should I destroy them? I really hate that idea. Please advise.
thanks

There is a least one more option to explore before you decide, I think. The state has the authority to authorize their keeping via permit. I am not aware of that process however, but I imagine it will prove as difficult as getting a camel thru the eye of a needle. Dept of Fish and Game is the agency. Where the process per se is encoded is unknown. You may find it spelled out in an unabridged version of the Fish & Game Code or it may reside in Departmental Policy and Proceedure only. Good luck to you and the animals.
