Dragons running wild

thebig_j Apr 13, 2006 07:34 PM

I was wondering what the dangers of having your dragon outside are. I recently bought a small leash for my female and she seemed to be pissed alot when we took her out for the first time yesterday. might she have been scared because of the larger space but she was all puffed up gaping and biting. also is it safe for them to eat grasses and wild onion plants? I know the sunlight is good for them just wondering if anyone knows anything else.

birds scare the crap out of them....also, watch it when they start running for a tree. You will end up climbing to the top trying to get them

Freedom is stressful for beardies. Hawks and other large birds are predators as are many other things that may be roaming your neighborhood. We house ours in outdoor cages in the summer. The screened top and sides offer visual and physical security. Most grasses are safe and I would think the wild onions are as well, but check websites for edible plants. Melissa Kaplan's is a great resource.

How would it be to take a Dragon with a halter on, to ride your shoulder at a car cruise or other event. All the time keeping him secure with your hand...He seems to like it around the house and outside in the yard.
Thanks

If he doesn't seem to mind then why not.. I have dragons that totally flip out when they see their own shadow while outside, and I have others that lay out and sun themselves with no worries at all. Of course I'd never think of taking the scared ones out for a cruise, but the relaxed laid back dragons may not have a problem with it. I have taken dragons to the vet, and carried them on my shoulder till I got there without any trouble, but you got to know the dragon... I would never think of doing that with foster as he's a huge 24 inch 820 gram scaredy cat with strong jaws and big musclular head that could do a job on my finger if he so chose too LOL. I sware the first time I took foster out it was like night and day.. He flipped out ran from my hands with his beard out mouth open. He sprinted accross the yard, and when I went to pick him up he'd lung at me, and run again. This is a dragon that is usaully as sweet as beardies come, so I was really suprised by his actions that day.. Now no matter what I always bring them out in screen cages so they can't run on me. It was really scary and I thought I would loose him. You know your dragon better then any of us do. If he seems to enjoy going outside in the yard a drive on your shoulder may not be so stressful for him..
