Looking for reports of wild hybrids

Aberlour Apr 13, 2006 10:34 PM

I'm looking for reports of whild hybrids:

If anyone happens to stumble accross any while there out in the field and would like to help out a research project please contact me.

Looking for:
Photo/identification and locality data along with an assessment of the general habitat. Any notes on the quality of the habitat would also help such as new road work or habitat degradement from building projects.

Thanks

so any breeding of wild within the family wouldn't count as being a " morph " ( say a cal king with a desert king ) ? Would offsprings of 2 seperate species found wild but same family count ? Or are you wanting 2 totally diff families of wild.

My first attempt at replying didn't work out right so this is the short version.

Morph is just a bastardized term out of morphology which studies the differences in both appearance and structure.

The cal king x desert king would be considered a intergrade at best. However many people would be quick to say that its just another case of rampant splitters over segregating a variable species.

I'm looking for intra-genus and intra-species hybrids for the most part though I would be happy to hear about any intergrades that anyone happens to run across.

Thanks

I found a snake that we think was a hybrid Mohave x Western Diamondback in west Texas. It ended up being used for venom research and then preserved. It was not found in a developed area.
There have been several incidences of hybridization between these two species.

There have also been wild hybrid corns x yellow rats found I believe.

Years ago I read a journal article about a supposed hybrid between Eryx conicus and Eryx johnii. I don't recall where I read it.

that cross was the EXACT one I was going to bring up as to several of us finding these down through the years. Small world, isn't it ! Now my 3 findings of a cross or natural hybrid was either the WDB with mojave or WDB with viridus on south 118. Buzz Ross has the theory on these but I have forgotten what he said they were or in fact were.
