I HAVE EGGS!!!
Day 13 after shed
My female started laying eggs at 4pm today. I just now took the last one out of her cage. Well, I think it is the last one. She has no more bulges left. I got to watch all but the first 4 or so being layed. I have left the box in (with her in it) just in case she has a few more. Her first clutch ever(and mine as well) and she had 21 eggs!!!!!!!!!!! One looks like it is bad, but we will see. I am so exhasted, and I didn't even do the egg laying. I can only imagine how my snake feels.
One female down, two to go.

Do I remember someone mentioning that they take the eggs out as they are layed? I thought someone said that. I know most people say to leave the female alone. What do you guys think? This was my first time, so I had to watch. I was as un-obtrusive as I could be, so to not stress her out. I had to take a couple pics, though.

Snapping a couple of pics is more then OK for a firstimer who's curious. A site well worth seeing. Congrats on such a big clutch! your doing something right.

However now that you have seen, next time I would recomend leaving her as quietly as possible. Think about it. In the wild she would be looking for the most secretive place she could find. Not only is she vulnerable while she lays, but her eggs are going to be unprotected sitting ducks for the next 2 months! She is looking for some security, and too much opening of her hide box and stealling her eggs could cause her to stop oviposition. Inapropriate / stressfull laying conditions are the number one cause of eggbinding.

Another note along these lines, that I notice people do all too frequently...
A clear plastic box with an inch of spagnum in the bottom does NOT provide a female with the security she is looking for. A nest box should be solid colored (you can just duct tape over your shoeboxes. And FILLED NEARLY TO THE TOP with your bedding of choice. Your female will burrough in and hollow out an area just big enough for her and her eggs. Many people find that females take 2 weeks to lay after she sheds. In my experience, when provided with a good nest site, it is more like 9 days. These females are just stalling from laying in less then ideal conditions.

oh and taking your snake out while she is laying is a dumb idea.

HAHA neither one of us said we took the female out. where you got that from is beyond me. Its good to know we are surrounded by "experts"

Sorry your post was a little confusing. I thought you meant you took out your female and not the eggs.

and if you disagree with any of my "expert" advice (actually it is just good basic husbandry) please enlighten me where I may have steered anyone wrong.

Its no big deal, dont worry about it....I am far from an expert

Hey, thanks for the input. I now know how things are, so i will let things be for my next two snakes. My box, although semi-transparent, was half filled with moist moss.
And one last thing. I would never take my snake out while she was in the middle of laying. I would think that would cause a lot of stress and make her stop laying.

It looks like one might be a slug, it is smaller and off color. My BF wants to incubate it until we are totally sure it is bad.
