double clutch note for Peter/everyone

Nokturnel Tom Apr 14, 2006 12:54 AM

Hey Peter, I got eggs from an important King on the 10th. I fed her 2 small hoppers after she was finished, and 2 more on the 11th. I also fed the male, especially since his other mates are all gravid now. I put them together on the 12th, and found them locked up today. When I picked up the female after for a quick inspection she even bit me LOL. I don't see any harm in seeing what happens when they're introduced shortly after clutch one whether they have shed or not. I know it can take up a lot of time if you have a large collection but experimentation will eventually get you what you want....another clutch. I am keeping notes but it is not something I will look at next season,,,it is more so for the fact I hope he breeds all his mates again and if he gets lazy I will know which ones he needs to get busy with. I prefer to see a few copulations, but since I have one male and 4 females I am trying to have him breed each one once before him having seconds on any of them. The other females may not be ready as fast as this one was for more breeding, but I am sure glad I wasted no time introducing him again to female number 1. I will feed them tomorrow and try them again soon after, as I have some time before any of the others will be ready.

Tom there has been times when I did that as well. I've reintroduced the male to the female the day after she's done laying and they would go right at it.
Had the female lay her 2nd clutch on the day her 1st clutch was hatching a few times.

Come to think of it I know that has happened here too, and just in time as I needed the room in my incubator. I checked out your site, looks cool, I like the marsh snakes and all the cool pics. I thought the link was too your older photo album type page. Mine is under construction but TomsSnakes.com should be up n running. Take it easy

Thanks for your hep Tom.

I like how you get to the point without having to write 14 paragraphs about NOTHING.

Thanks again.

Glad to help Peter. Being a songwriter[semi retired] you get in the habit of saying what you want to say in as little space as possible. My long winded posts of old would be to easy to find flaws, something forum people love to see. One mistake and suddenly you never knew what you were talking about... Staying on topic I will mention the snake that laid the eggs on the 10th, and bred on the 13th, ate no less than 8 large hoppers since then, a few per day. She is fatter now than she was when gravid. I am very satisfied, and the snake seems to be doing great. Mission accomplished Tom Stevens
