Watching Hockey with Katrina

wftright Apr 14, 2006 02:06 AM

I like watching hockey with my ball python. She doesn't keep her eyes on the action at all times, and she's still learning the rules. However, she's great company and keeps me calm through good and bad games.

LOL Thanks

In Louisiana, we don't get many Red Wings' games. I'm not sure that I've seen them all year. We're on the Stars network, and we follow them. I was first introduced to hockey in the early 90's when I lived in Oklahoma City. My hockey friend hated the Stars because he hated anything from Texas, but he made such a big deal of it that I started liking them. Because I didn't grow up with hockey, I don't really have teams that I dislike, and that makes watching more fun. I love watching the minor league games in person, but I won't take Katrina out of the house unless she's going to the vet's office.

The hardest rule for me was the two-line pass because I would lost track of whether the puck had crossed the second line. Katrina's eyes are better at catching those things than mine are.

The Stars are my second team. I used to play hockey at the Dr. Pepper Star Center in Texas. We have met a few of the Dallas Stars. Tell your friend they started out in Minnisoda (sp).

2 line pass is a thing of the past. Love that new rule change!

I think my friend would be okay with the Stars if they were still in Minnesota. He just hates most teams from Texas, particularly Dallas.

I'm jealous that you've had the chance to play hockey. I would like to have given it a try, but I probably don't have the coordination. I took skating lessons once and eventually learned to skate backwards a little bit, but I was never good. I kept falling down and scaring the teacher because I landed so hard. The skates at the rink also gave me tendon problems in my left ankle.

I wondered why they weren't calling the two-line passes this year. I thought that I was just not seeing where passes started and ended very well. I'm glad to hear that they dumped that rule. The game becomes faster and less confusing.

LOL - I grew up a huge Kings fan. Used to watch hockey all the time - but for girls the closest thing we could get to playing it was field hockey in gym class. Ironically - my addiction to the sport stopped about the time when my son started showing interest in playing it. I just couldn't bear the thought of my precious little guy missing half his teeth. I am such a hypocrit. I hear the Kings just got knocked out of the playoffs.

I just couldn't bear the thought of my precious little guy missing half his teeth.

I thought that they had improved the protective gear to the point that kids weren't likely to lose teeth these days. I don't think I could stand to have a kid playing soccer, so I would tolerate the bumps and bruises of football or hockey if I had a kid. Unfortunately, a kid with my genes likely wouldn't have the coordination or the knees to play any of these.

USA Hockey requires a full cage and non-clear mouth guard for youth divisions.

I've seen more injuries in soccer than I have in hockey.
