Another Thermostat Question...

Kingofspades Apr 14, 2006 05:32 AM

I know this is asked 5 times a day, but which is better for a rack system?
Ranco or Herpstat?

I'm leaning towards the Herpstat because it's proportional...and I've read that is better for constant temps.

Opinions?

We are currently using Rancos, Johnsons, (both on/offs) and Helix, (proportional) on our racks. Either will work for racks/cages, although the proportional will keep the temp from fluctuating as much, if at all. We use Helix for incubating. I don't have any experience with the Herpstats. From what I've read and heard, they work well.

If you do not need a proportional thermostat (breeding, cooling, nightdrop) the Ranco is fine. One thing nice with the Herpstat is you can have it be proportional or on/off. It does have a lot of options and I am very pleased with mine. Your snake will be fine with either but the herpstat just lets things be a little more natural.
