How are snows produced?

biscuit71 Apr 14, 2006 05:42 AM

I saw an ad in The classifieds for a DH Snow... is a snow Ball produced in the same was as a snow Boa? An Albino bred to an Xanthic and then both the DH bred to eachother? (Boas its Albino X Anery) Just wondering.... thanks for all replies

mind if I tag another question on to the original? what are the odds of producing a snow when breeding the DH together? I've got a friend with an unproven axanthic that wants to breed him to my albino girl.

ooh, not very good odds. Another question please, what are the non-snow babies of a DH X DH? all dh's for snow, possible hets? I know I need to study genetics, but as much as I try, I just can't wrap my brain around it.

I was perfectly happy trying for albino's and caramels and then this friend finds a possible axanthic.

from a DH snow X DH snow you'd get any of the following:

Normal
Het for Albino
Het for Axanthic
Albino
Axanthic
Albino het for Axanthic
Axanthic het for albino
Snow

Normal babies will be 66% het Snow(axanthic/Albino)
Albinos will be 66% het Axanthic
Axanthics will be 66% het Albino
Hope this helps, Jon

wow, what a mix of offspring. Sounds like a fun, exciting and potentially frustrating project!

The normal looking offspring of DH snow X DH snow would be 66% chance het albino and a separate/independent 66% chance het axanthic (xanthic is something else - a caramel). The chance of being het for both (i.e. a double het for snow) would be 4/9 or about 44%. However, they would only have a 1/9 chance of not being het for either. I bought a possible double het snow male and plan to use him due to the low odds of him being a normal.
