Cat Saliva Deadly to Geckos?????

GoldyGirl Apr 14, 2006 10:59 AM

Last week one of my Golden Geckos escaped it's enclosure..My cat found him and he dropped his tail but she still bit him and broke the skin on his back. He was ok until last night. He won't eat and he shedded but now he's so dark I know he's stressed. I soaked him in warm water but his eyes are sinking in..Is cat saliva deadly to geckos? Can I do anything to save him? Any response is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure about the saliva, but if the cat bit the gecko, there may be some internal damage if it was a hard bite. You might want to consult with a vet.

Keep us posted

When ever cats bite there usually is alot of infection, nasty bites. Plus like the other buddy said there may be internal injuries you can't see due to pressure applied by the cat when it clapped down

Can you see the bite mark/area bitten? I would wash it good and apply an antibiotic ointment place your gecko on paper towels leave quietly and call your vet as soon as Posssible.

Hope he will come around. Thats a shame ! let us know how you make out.

I flushed the wound out good when it happened and put neosporin on the bite and the tail..I had to take a cockatiel to the vet yesterday and I was going to take the gecko along, but he wad dead by the time I left for my appointment. The bites weren't even severe, just broke the skin. Poor little man I feel like an irresponsible owner because he escaped. My other golden can't get out so I STILL dont' understand how he did..checked the lid over I don't know how many times. Just thought I'd let you all know that he didn't make it and he was probably too far gone even if I would have gotten him to the vets
