decomposed granite ???

paine Apr 14, 2006 04:58 PM

I have heard a lot of talk about decomposed granite and I found a place to get it not to far away from me. The thing is that, they have never heard of the type 'Pink Breeze'. That is what I hear is the best to use. has anyone found this stuff with a more common name? anyone found decomposed granite that is comparable to pink breeze or even good for monitors? I have tried so many types of dirt for my animals and cant seem to be happy with any. I was thinking about picking up the decomposed granite tomorrow, so any help soon would be awesome, thanks.

you are limiting yourself to a NAME, and a common name at that. "pink breeze" is a name that one local landscape wholesaler decided to call one of their products, it doesn't have any relevance outside his stock yard.

the goal is a soil that works, period. don't worry about what it is called. just get out there, take some buckets, and try 5 gallons of different types. see what works, and what doesn't.

but do it without the animals. no need to put the monitors through the testing of poor soil, do it separately. if you want to learn about what makes a good soil, read our soil FAQs at our site, and just try the store bought mix that you can mix yourself. it is a good starting point, it works well for lizards and monitors, and you can take it from there.

best of luck.

Well I went to the place where they had the decomposed granite and the stuff they had was not as fine as the stuff that you have and also has lots a small rocks. What I did find is somehting called 'Lime Sand' IT is really just some small rocks and more of a fine sand type stuff. It seems to hold moisture well and maybe even a burrow.... this its ok?
