Me and Ceilia are having the same juju..

madisonrecords Apr 14, 2006 05:44 PM

Tuesday morning, my French Guiana throwed out three small slugs and two dead babies in the sac.I was completely blown away by this, especially considering how enormous her ovulation was. I would have been much less baffled if she would have thrown out twenty more slugs. I also wondered if this happened as a result of trying to pass a stool, but she was at 123 days after ovulation and that is plenty of time " generaly " for a good viable litter. Now, I am wondering if maybe she just emptied one of the oviducts and may shoot out some more in the next few days? Sounds like Ceilia's female did that very thing? It is still poorly understood what causes these things to happen and if you have good husbandry, you cannot blame yourself. It is just part of nature. The good news is that she is doing fine and I just gave her a couple of moderate sized rats to eat and she will probably do just fine next year. We will see what happens and I still have some good prospects for this year so you guys don't count us out as of yet. Ceilia, if you read this, after your female dropped the babies at 101, did she look pretty thin until she dropped the rest of them at 107?........Johnson Herp

Sorry to hear that John, hopefully she does pass the remaining babies ok if there are anymore. I have heard of females passing a few babies then passing the rest a few days later but I have also heard of females that have a litter of mostly slugs and becoming blocked by the slugs and passing away. Hope all is ok with her and keep us posted. Any luck with that giant BCC? Later

Ya, we will see what happens in the next few days, but I am not counting on it. The Big Beastly Girl, is getting primed for next year. I have a really good feeling about her and the other two for next season. I still have a couple of Peruvians and a Southern Suriname that I am working on for this season, so we will see what happens. Keep me posted on the N.L........Johnson Herp

Keep you posted on the N.L.? you must be refering to the "unknown locality" boas right? They are still going at it, the female is really swolen, more so then before I put them together. I have a feeling she may ovulate soon but who knows? I had a female BCI ovulate 2 weeks ago so I hope this starts a chain reaction. She is looking good and could carry a good sized litter so keep you fingers crossed.

I just retrieved the voice mail you left me late last night, too late to be calling you back. I'll try giving you a ring overthe weekend sometime.

If she has more I hope you get some live.

bad juju! Sorry to hear about the slugs and the babies - however, I would say, definitely keep your eye on her! She might be holding them in still and give you a bunch of good babies any day now!

Our female was pretty thin looking after she threw out those still borns/premies. We thought she was done too which didn't make any sense at all. So, we ultrasounded her and were able to see more "things" in her. We weren't sure if they were more slugs or babies or what - but we knew for sure she had more something inside her.

I would say that if she doesn't give birth again in the next few days, it might be worth taking her to a Vet. to get her ultrasounded or x-rayed.

Good luck with her and definitely keep us posted on her!

Thanks,
Celia
