Question about burms.

pythonis Apr 15, 2006 06:22 AM

I recently found a decent sized burm in which i would like to purchase. the snake in question is 9ft. I know these things get to be longer but I was wondering what length tank I should get. Would a 6' be best or something longer? My reasoning for these questions is I have friends who have burms but im not sure of the growth rate, Would getting a smaller sized tank be a waste or should i get something that will accomodate its size fully grown? With the price of large cages/tanks, I cant afford to get a new one every couple months if burms grow as quickly as I hear they do.

Also, who's a good place to get burm tanks from? Ive looked into getting boaphiles, but I have heard they take forever to ship? Has anyone else had this problem? I keep the majority of my snakes in sterilites, but I rather doubt they make a sterilite or rubbermaid big enough to house a burm (at least not sufficiently with a water dish and such).

Any input will appreciated.

I would highly suggest an "Animal Plastics" cage. I currently have the T50 model to house a burm and I have a T70 on the way for another snake. They are high quality cages and should last the life of your pet. If you haven't checked them out already, you can google "animal plastics" and it will give you their site.

wow...thanks for the quick response but I have to ask...is an 8' tank for a 9' snake required at this time? All of my snakes tend to be able to coil themselves so I am assuming that a burm can as well. If I failed to mention this before I shall do so now. I am looking for an appropriate sized tank for a 9' female burm. what is an appropriate tank size for a 9' burm? I do not want to have to spent an arm and a leg for a tank and Im not looking for name brand superduper high quality with all the extras. 4 walls, a floor, and a roof is all i am needing. BTW, $100 is a lot of money for me so if possible id like to be able to find one reasonably cheap. I know I wont be able to find a decent burm fitting tank for under a C note but I am not interested in tanks costing close to or over a grand, either.

I think animal plastics makes a 72 long 18 high 30 deep for about $340. That would last you a good amount of time. At least tell the burm is 14-16 feet. If its a male it should last the rest of its life, but a female you would need like 96x18x30. If you can build then maybe you should just make your own. That's what i do and its a lot cheaper.

As far as cage size goes, I would think a 72"x30" cage would certainly be adequate for your snake, at least for a time. Eventually you'll most likely want to move up to at least an 8' cage or larger depending on the size of your animal.

Building your own is definitely the way to go if you want to save huge $$$. I make my own 6 and 8 ft. cages for $35-$50 a piece.

Just out of curiosity how can you build an 8 foot cage for 50 bucks? What kind of material are you using and where can I get some?

dollarthegreat Apr 16, 2006 03:16 PM

Give me your email address and i can email pics of the cages. You can build one for 30-50 dollars and its very easy.
