Gravid female eating question...

philg Jul 29, 2003 08:30 PM

I know this has been asked before, but I can't find any info about it. If a female is gravid, how long does she usually refuse food before she lays eggs? Will she immidiately eat after they are laid? I'm kinda curious....I think 2 of my females are gravid, and my biggest and best eater isn't really into the crickets the past few days...thanks for the help...

Well, my female usually refuses food for about a week before she lays. They will sometimes refuse for more than that, sometmes less, so its hard to say. A couple times my female would decrease food intake, but not actually refuse.
Sometimes it takes a couple days after laying before they start to eat again, but my leo eats the mintue after laying. When they do start to eat again, (seeing as how they havent eaten in a week) they usually eat alot more than normal. Hope this helps

I asked the same question, and people were saying one week or two. So I was totally off-guard when my female laid her eggs only two days after she stopped eating. Actually, she started losing her appetite a couple days before laying, and after I hand-fed her some mealworms, she stopped eating completely. Then she laid, and the next day, she was H-U-N-G-R-Y and eating like crazy.
