Hypo Everglades

rearfang Apr 15, 2006 09:59 AM

Just saw a nice netonate at a local pet shop. The juv pattern is present as a slightly darker orange. Do these snakes lose the juv blotches completely as they grow?

To clarify, I've never seen or heard of an Everglades adult with any blotches so I would say all lose their blotches. They should turn to stripes as they mature. Now, if the one at the pet shop is a true Hypo, it will mature and have no pattern at all. Like the second one pictured below. The first one below is a very nice normal Glades.

Thanks guys.

I had (if I recall right) seen blotches retained in albinos (this morph is new to me)so it made me wonder.

Went and bought it. The color is not as rich orange (more lighter pastel looking unfortunately) as yours Mark, but it definitly is hypo. Also a bit bug eyed.

The good news being it ate a fuzzy M. right off.

The orange should get brighter as the blotches fade.

I've noticed the bug-eyed look on baby ratsnakes too - sometimes the pupils are oddly shaped as well. THis always has cleared up as the snake got older.

Very cool pics Mark - great looking glades!

As a baby, that one's color wasn't as rich either. Post a pic. I'm anxious to see it. I bought a baby amel a couple years back despite it being a little off colored. It turned out to have a color I adore. A much softer look and, I think, very pretty.

That color is close to what I have. Will be taking collection photos soon and will let you know. Thanks,
