Pics of CA King w/ big tumor

rugbyman2000 Apr 15, 2006 02:17 PM

Our nonprofit reptile rescue recently received 17 reptiles from a big animal cruetly/hording confiscation.

The reptiles were being fed for the most part, but conditions were absolutely filthy. You could barely walk between cages and junk in the trailer they came from. Bird cages had four-five inches of crap on the bottom, and the reptile cages were also very neglected and filthy, with almost no heat on anything.

This CA King appears to have a pretty big tumor. At first we thought it may have swallowed an egg, but it hasn't passed after several days. I have seen a lot of tumors on snakes before, but never this big. Any thoughts before I take it to the vet this week?

Thanks,

Wow that doesn't look good.

It probably(hopefully) swallowed something.

Looks like a good size snake.. How big?

It is a full grown adult around four feet. Our first thought was that maybe it was being fed chicken eggs. I know CA Kings have been known to eat eggs, and given the poor conditions it came from, a diet of chicken eggs would not have surprised me. But it doesn't appear to be food because nothing has changed after several days.

Looks like a female with a retained egg still in her. Not one that she ate, but one that got stuck in her after she laid the rest of her clutch.

What I meant to post was:

If it is a retained egg, the prognosis is good. The vet can aspirate it it with a syringe, and she will pass the shell.

Looks a little large for an egg, though. Have you palpated the lump? Is it soft or firm? Does it shift around or stay in one place? Be very gentle if you try this. Also dose the snake act in distress - flinching or guarding?

In any case get to the vet pronto.

Good Luck,

That is not an egg, swallowed or eggbound. This snake needs to see a vet pronto.

please tell us the results.
