I did a very "non-lele" sort of thing. I bought a pair of lizards that I had never even heard of before. Assumed the guy gave me good enough basic info to know I had what I needed at home. They are called Side Blotched lizards Uta stanshunana and are indigneous to CA. I got a male and, i think a female - and I think she might be gravid.

anyone know anything about them? Foudna care sheet and will got set them up now - will give pics later...

I have two things to say. Number one shame on you missy! You scold people for doing that and you should know that they rarely ever turn out well. On another note, you are lucky for i have worked with side blotched lizards before!

They are very similair to beardies in care. HOT temps, dry, plenty of space, and can tame quite well. 100 degree basking spot, 80 degree ambient temp and a 65-70 degree night temp. Small water bowl. LARGE grapewood branches are there favorites. Rocks work great too. A large cage is appreciated. A 3 foot long x 1 foot wide is ok for a pair. Nothing smaller. Put up a background on three sides becasue they will be very jumpy for a LONG time, becasue they are wild caught.

They are tricky to get to feed. The one thing they go head over heels for are small, quick bugs. Smaller crix and spiders are good. Mealies and waxies will just get crapped on...

Let me know if you need some more help; ie: sexing, breeding, cohabitation....etc

I fight for the unconventional
My right, and its unconditional
I can only, be as real as i can
The disadvantage is
I never knew the plan
This isnt the way just to be a martyr
I cant, walk alone any longer
I fight, for the ones that cant fight
And if I lose, at least I tried....

Well...in my defense, I usually say never buy from a pet store or a rescue...but if this makes it any better I spent about 1/2 deciding and asking lots of questions! lol! I know, I can't believe it. I was going to use my 30gal for a bunch of leaf chams or day gecko...

I'll take photos later but I am sure one is a male - all that lovely blue! I found one care sheet and they say they like to dig in sand so I will go replenish my supply of playsand.

here's the caresheet,

I've had those before, they run around the desert here and I see them on my block wall in my yard LOL. We (me and a friend of mine) had a few lay eggs for us, but at the time we didn't know anything about incubation (I was probably 10). They want it hot hot hot and won't need water in a bowl. Use a 10.0 bulb for UV-B, as the desert rays are stronger than the 5.0 bulbs you'd wanna use for a chameleon. I'm dying to know, what were they selling for? I could catch 30 a day if I tried LOL.

felt sort of silly when I learned they are a very common lizard in the SW. They are priced like anoles, I paid $6. I am sure the vendor got them for .50 each! lol! Oh well, I am having fun with them.

I have taken pics but haven't uploaded. Worked on my taxes the last 3 days!

I haven't named them yet, but they were just mating. Do you have any idea what their gestation period is? Thanks for the site, btw. It says they lay eggs spring/summer but who knows how messed up their seasonl clock is! lo!

I have provided two "beds" of sand for them and the female burrowed and slept in one the other night I know they need to lay in the sand as well. I may be looking for homes for some of these blotchies in a few months!
