That's a great shot. I soooo wanted to see something like that when I was out doing three months of desert tortoise surveys outside of Las Vegas a few years back. No such luck... 
Very Nice. Do you have a location that you find Gila's in the wild often? Or was that a staged shot? Nice either way!!

taken about 10 miles from my house in Arizona.
Just curious, is it common to see the Gilas out and about? I have heard mixed stories...some people say they look all their life and only find a couple....others say they see 5 a year? I suppose it depends if you know where to look....?
The "where" is somewhat important, but less so than the "when" temp,humidity,time of year and day,are my primary factors in formulating a strategy to photo these beasts. Investing time in the field (ALOT) and then taking copious notes when you are successful will teach you what you need to know.
