When pairing up thayeri for the first time to breed, have you ever had one start devouring the other? Just yesterday I put a pair together and watched them for 10 minutes tail slap and chase each other around. I figured all was well and went outside to do some things. Suddenly, something told me to go back inside and check on them. Sure enough, they were in a knot and the male's head was down the female's throat! And I just fed her three weanlings less then 12 hours ago. I pulled them apart and the male is now fine. That was an adrenaline rush!
Over the years, I have lost only one thayeri to cannibalism. He was super clean yellow with reduced Leonis saddles. I had big plans for him. Raised him up for three years only to lose him his first breeding season to this milksnake B**** I subsequently named Widow Maker. Widow Maker is no longer of this world either.
Does anyone else have tales of cannibalism?
