HELP!! Leo Gecko eyes shut- wont eat for

kahill Apr 16, 2006 01:04 PM

Our Leopard gecko hasn't eaten for about a month. We stopped using sand substrate about 3 weeks ago. He is not impacted. His tail is somewhat plump, but reducing and he is becoming slightly wrinkled from the weight loss.

I am quite sure that it is because he can't see. He has had about 6 difficult sheds where I would have to give him a soak and use a q-tip for the toes and head, but skin in his eyes started not coming out 2 sheds ago.

I was afraid to pull skin on his eyes and increased constant humidity in his tank to 50%. He is now on paper towels and he has a constant humidity hide.

Is it safe to try to gently pry his eyes open. He can't see how to hunt!

I'm very upset about this - he is a crazy little dragon and was very active till now.

take him to the vet they might have something to put on his eyes to help the infection or whatever it might be.

Since his sheds were so incomplete and his head was always affected with remaining skin, I didn't suspect any infection. There isn't any type of discharge or swelling or anything like that. There does seem to be tiny flecks of skin between the eye lid rims though.
