Anyone bought a Uro recently?

mistamasta Apr 16, 2006 01:28 PM

I've been looking for on-line captive breeders of Occellated, Egyptian, or Mali hatchlings/young juveniles and I can't really find any. I live on the Fl/Ga border so I'd prefer one thats close if it ends up needing to be shipped. Just wondering if anyone has made recent additions to their Uro's. Thanks for any help in advance.

I just purchased a yearling mali uromastyx from deer fern farms.com this past Monday and i also live in Florida,it was shipped from Washington and arrived in 2 day's it was packed extremely well and OZ>my uro's new name was in perfect condition he's already calming down and eating a lot.I would definately check out that site he has a whole bunch of different species of Uro's.I was concerned about the whole shipping process to but it was definately worth it,I'll be making some more purchases through them in the future!Hope this help's,I'm new to this forum thing not real sure of how everything work's with it yet!

Thanks for the advice, I e-mailed Mr. Dix about 5 days ago and still no word. I've also talked to a couple of other reputable breeders that said it was still too early in the season. I actually came across an exotic pet place out of Miami that has CBB Mali's($30.40) and CBB Egyptians($108.00), as far as I know those prices are unbeatable. I found the place this weekend so I figure I'll try and contact him now that the holiday is over. Hope everyone had a nice Easter. Doesn't Sprigtime make you want to get more babies?

Lindsay Pike (Urotopia.com) is in Florida I believe, and he is extremely well regarded (as is Doug Dix!). It might be worth you to wait a little to wait for Doug or Lindsay to hatch out their juvies. You will probably pay a lot more, but chances are you will be getting lizards who are healthier, and have had a much better start in life. Plus you get the relationship with the breeder to help answer any questions you have. I know Doug and Lindsay are both incredibly busy people (Doug in particular) so make sure your subject line is very descriptive, and maybe give them a call. Sometimes it is easier to catch them that way.

Good Luck finding your new friend! I wouldn't trade Mosca for the world, and he came from Lindsay. As a side note, I was extremely uncomfortable shipping Mosca as well, but Lindsay (at teh time) was the only person who had the type of Egyptian I wanted. Mosca was shipped overnight, and was fat and happy when he arrived. In face Lindsay rescheduled his original ship date because of some potential weather patterns that might have delayed little Mosca in the air!! If you go with a reputable breeder, I think you can be fairly comfortable witht the shipping process.

Hey FYI if you didn't put uromastyx in the heading to Dix his spam filter get's it,those prices are cheap but i would find some people who have done some business with them before buying any uro's just to be safe.

I forgot to tell you to call Dix but remember that we are 3 hour's ahead of him so call him between 10 am and 12pm(noon)our time. They are more money but well worth it,my uro is absolutely beautiful,i myself wasn't expecting how sweet OZ(uro)is! PS just remember cheaper is usually not better, urotopia is good too,but they were sold out of what i wanted,Give Dix a call it's worth any trouble!

I noticed the food dish in your picture... how long does it take for them to finish that off? You feed them that much every day?

I hadn't noticed that. Funny! That uro certainly will never go hungry!

Mosca, the 20 month Egyptian, will eat about that in a day... I am frightened for how much he will eat when he gets older! lol

Sorry for the hiatus in posting...had a family trip....yes, my Uros finish or nearly finish that much food every day...speaking of food I'm gonna start another post with a question about something I saw last week.
