Savannah Hides alot

easye921 Apr 16, 2006 02:20 PM

I bought a baby savannah last week. I am wondering if it is normal for it to hide alot. It eats like crazy. He eats 10-13 crickets a day and had its first pinkie yesterday. I have it in a 29 gallon aquarium for now while I am currently building a bigger one. Its temps are bask 120, hot 90, and cool 80. Will it get use to me in due time?

Everything eats baby monitors, everything. Furthermore, monitors spend their day eating, regulating their temperature, and trying to avoid being eaten(hiding).

Monitors feel secure in tight, concealed places. (there is word for this tendency that escapes me at the moment)

No matter how "used to you" it gets, it is still a monitor and will never be "happy" to see you or want to be seen or exposed.

The best you'll get, with few exceptions, is an animal that will tolerate your presence and handling.

I would give it a couple weeks to acclimate to the environment.I handled my Sav often when she was small and after she got used to me(and bigger),she was the tamest monitor I have ever had.I could put my fingers into her open mouth and she would never bite, though I wouldn't try that now that I'm older and wiser. My Blackthroat would probably take a finger off if I tried that
