Whew...I had Ole and Lena out today in the warm 88 degree late afternoon sunshine. We were sitting on the warm (not hot) driveway where they were looking very content when all of a sudden Lena took off running. I ran after her leaving Ole behind and was able to get her onto the lawn where I thought I'd have a decided advantage and easily catch her. Not so.

She ran for the shelter of a rock island with lots of foliage and I spent the next ten minutes just trying to locate her. I'd see brief glimpses of her but she'd run for cover as soon as I'd reach for her. I was getting nowhere fast.

I was keeping my eye on Ole all the while hoping he'd stay put as he's not much of a runner. Anyway, you guessed it...he was now on the move too. I decided I'd better get him back first and then I'd come back for Lena. When I neared Ole he too was enjoying his new found freedom and also gave me a run for my money. I was able to corral him in the garage after a short chase and I quickly had him back in his tank.

Back to lena...I ran around the side of the house and got the hose...set it on 'shower' and dragged it over to the rock island where I proceeded to hose the island down with hopes of cooling Lena to make her easier to catch. After a few minutes I was able to flush her out back onto the lawn. She ran for cover under a red thorned bush and she was stopped cold in her tracks. I was able to reach in and complete the rescue.

What was I thinking? I knew these little guys were fast but I had no idea they could sustain a run. I imagined they were good for short little bursts only. That was a bad assumption.

Does anybody else have a similar experience?

... Glad you got them back! Everyone seems to be letting them out for a little "run" this summer LOL.
