Q on hottest morphs this year.

hawiiangecko Apr 16, 2006 06:53 PM

hey all, just curious on what everyone thinks will be the most sought after morphs for this coming year. and whats happening with the super motleys? i havent heard anything about them in a while. also, as a person just getting into breeding, could someone point me twards a nice morph to start investing in? and would it be better for someone to get a pair of hets rather than get the real thing?
cheers

there is no determining what will be the hottest. usually it is the most rare that is most sought after. i think all the current morphs are doing well and making advances. what to invest in more so depends in how much time and money you have to invest. recessive genes require more time but usually retain value better .. and i mean usually.
as far as what to get, that depends on what you want to make. if you just want to make hypo boas then get a normal and a homozygous hypo. if you want to make albinos then working with hets would get you there faster then making hets if you got an albino. there are many paths to the various goals, you just need to dicide what you want to do and then what is the best way to get there for you.

The best projects to get into are the quadruple decker rectum wreckers (Aka way to expensive multi trait carrying hets) that way you can have a wide array of animals come from a single pairing.

As far as popular morphs Motleys should be at a slightly more affordable price point this year so more people will be getting into those, bloods and leopards also seem to be gaining in popularity.

Best advice is to find what you like and concentrate on that with others as a side project.

As far as what to get into for yourself, I'd recomend getting good females to start. Maybe some hypo females ( universal in lots of breeding/morph projects).. A male could start you out quicker, but the females with be worth more to you as far as breeding goes in the long run.

If you are unsure on what to pick up now try and find a few good females to grab up, they will take longer to reach maturity so won't hurt having just females for a year or two while you decide on a male to get.
