What kind of gecko?

jeanne Apr 16, 2006 07:39 PM

I picked up this Day Geckos at a reptile show yesterday and forgot to ask what kind it was (It was the end of the show and everybody was rushing around) I got it in a trade, but they had a price tag of $165. I know it is a Day Gecko, but I also see some Day Geckos selling for $30-$60 and some for $150+.

He is a little banged up, the people had him in with other geckos at home so he was probably in with some males.

Any idea on what makes some more expensive than others?

That's a Giant Day Gecko (Phelsuma madagascariensis grandis)- but that's an OUTRAGEOUS price for one (I've seen cb babies for as little as $30!). I sell adults (in much better shape than that one!) in my store for about $65.....

thats a lot for a grandis, i got mine for 35 at a show. i am guessing it was that much cause it has so much red. but 165 is still a lot and i don't know why they charged that much if it was so banged up. is it wild caught? i have one and they are really fun as long as you don't disturb them, and they grow expremely fast. heres pics of mine. good luck and feel free to ask more questions. the first is him at 2 months, the next at 6 months and the last is his cage, it's a 45 high. oh yeah, remember to mist cuase they usualy don't drink out of a water dish.
